VALLEY SPRINGS – (Fri. 8/5/11) The VA Rural Health Mobile Outreach Team will be at the Valley Springs Vets Hall, corner of Pine and Daphne Streets, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, according to Luis Domondon, commander of American Legion Post 102.
“A medical and mental health team will be on site and no appointment is necessary,” Domondon said, “and you do not have to be a Calaveras County resident to take advantage of this event.”
Domondon told TLSN he had contacted the VA a month ago about visiting Valley Springs because it has been a decade since they last made an appearance here. “This is the first time in 10-years the VA has made an appearance here,” Domondon said, “so I hope all Veterans will take advantage of this rare opportunity no matter where they reside. I know veterans from Tuolumne County who will be coming to the VA’s appearance here.”
Here is a list of things the VA says will occur during their Valley Springs Outreach Team appearance:
- The Rural Health Team will provide examinations and consultations, referrals, prescriptions and vaccines.
- If you are uncertain about your eligibility for medical or psychological services, members of our Team can provide you with information about and assistance with eligibility and enrollment for VA care. You do not have to terminate your current insurance to receive VA benefits. Eligibility requirements have changed, therefore, if you have been denied in the past, please come and speak with us. Benefits are available for Viet Nam and Iraqi/Afghanistan Veterans.
- If you are NOT currently in the VA system, bring your DD214 (proof of honorable discharge). If you do not have a copy of our DD214, we will obtin one for you.
- In addition, volunteer Veteran Service Officers will be available to review your benefits and provide assistance with filing claims.
For more information, contact Valerie Gabriel, LCSW at (209) 588-2604. Veteran volunteers will be on hand to provide transportation to and from the outreach event for those Veterans residing in the immediate area. Please contact Valerie Gabriel by Tuesday, August 9 if you need a ride.
