No Water At Lodi Lake Park’s South Facilities This Weekend

LODI — (Fri. 8/5/11) An emergency repair to a water supply pipe Friday is forcing Lodi Lake Park’s south facilities to close through the weekend, although the park remains open for the public.

The beach area, wading pool and public restrooms will be closed through Sunday, August 7. Restrooms and drinking fountains at the north end of the park are not affected. Swimmers are encouraged to use the Blakely Pool from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

City work crews investigating the source of water saturating the park’s south playground on Friday found a corroding, leaking metal pipe below ground. The abandoned pipe, however, remained connected to the water system supplying irrigation and washroom facilities in the park’s south end. Properly sized fittings could not be obtained from local suppliers, requiring a work crew to seal the pipe with concrete, which will require 72 hours to cure.

Restrooms in the park’s south area are expected to reopen Monday. Groups with weekend reservations for picnic areas are being contacted to advise them of the interrupted water supply.
