Marti Crane To Run For District 5 Supervisor
VALLEY SPRINGS – (Sat. 8/6/11) Marti Crane told TLSN today that she will be running for the office of District 5 Supervisor once the recall efforts against current District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman succeed. Crane is the second person to publicly announce running for Spellman’s seat, the other is Michael McDaniel.
As previously reported by TLSN, Rancho Calaveras resident Michael McDaniel is heading a recall movement in an effort to unseat Spellman. According to McDaniel, “His lack of attending meetings that he is required to attend and his personal attacks on individuals is not serving the community.”
McDaniel told TLSN his efforts to recall Spellman will begin next week. McDaniels said he will have 90-days to gather 1,656 signature on recall petitions once the process begins.
Crane, who attends the county’s Board of Supervisor meetings on a constant basis, said that she has been preparing to run for the Board of Supervisors for more than eight years. “I am now prepared to run for Supervisor because we need to bring our community together,” Crane said.
Like McDaniel, Crane pointed to Spellman’s constant criticisms of others merely for asking questions. Crane said Spellman’s actions do not facilitate a “sense of community.”
Crane was recently named Calaveras County’s “Senior Woman of the Year” by the Calaveras County Commission on Aging and was acknowledged by the Board of Supervisors for her volunteer contributions to the community.
She is the executive director of the Volunteer Center of Calaveras County, has worked for 10 years with the Valley Springs Youth Center and the Calaveras Follies.
Crane has also been involved in the Master Gardeners, the Zucchini Festival, the Valley Springs Friends of the Library melodrama, the Calaveras County Council to Prevent Child Abuse, the Jenny Lind Elementary School Career Day, the Women’s Crisis Center Advisory Board, the Optimist Club and garden coordinating at Valley Springs Elementary School.
Besides Crane and McDaniel seeking to run for Spellman’s seat once he is recalled, there reportedly are four other people interested in running for his position. Two of them reportedly are former Spellman supporters.
